You'll need to update the domain\u2019s DNS settings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2)<\/strong> BIMI works only for emails that pass DMARC authentication. You'll need to set up or update your DMARC record.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3)<\/strong> To enable BIMI at Gmail, you will need a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC). This is a digital certificate that proves your legal rights to use logos in emails.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4)<\/strong> BIMI only works with email clients that support it, such as Gmail. In other email clients that don\u2019t support it, your logo may not be displayed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><b>How BIMI affects deliverability:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>BIMI can give your emails a boost in every important aspect: better sender reputation \u2192 more emails reaching the inbox \u2192 increased trustworthiness for your sender account \u2192 higher engagement.<\/p>\n<p><b>1) Better sender reputation<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BIMI increases your sender reputation and email score when your emails are checked by spam filters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>2) Better email engagement<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The recipients who use email clients that support BIMI will see your company's logo next to your emails in their inbox instead of a generic avatar. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This adds extra trust to your emails \u2014 recipients are more likely to open an email from a trusted sender.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>3) Better domain and email security<\/b><\/p>\n<p>BIMI works in combination with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records to protect your sender domain from unauthorized use, such as spoofing or phishing.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 20pt;\"><strong>How to set up BIMI for your domain<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Step 1: Add DMARC policy<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BIMI only works for emails that pass the <strong>DMARC<\/strong> check \u2013 a policy that determines what to do with emails that haven\u2019t passed authentication. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make sure your DMARC policy is set to either <\/span><b>quarantine<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><b>reject<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for BIMI to function properly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To check your current DMARC record status, go to your<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/app.snov.io\/account\/email-account\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> email accounts list<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and open settings of the account where you want to add BIMI. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scroll down to the <\/span><b>Optional settings<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and select <\/span><b>Domain health<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once the check is finished, you'll see the status of your <strong>DMARC<\/strong> record, along with other domain records. This is a good reason to do it if you\u2019ve skipped it before \u2013 this will improve the security of your emails.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Required DMARC settings:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To support BIMI, your DMARC policy <\/span><b>(p)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> must be set to either <\/span><b>reject<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><b>quarantine<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s an example of a correct DMARC record value for BIMI: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">v=DMARC1; p=reject; rua=<\/span><a href=\"mailto:dmarc@snov.io\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mailto:your@snov.io<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>p <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">value is \u201cquarantine\u201d or \u201creject\u201d. BIMI doesn\u2019t support \u201cnone\u201d policies that have the \u201cnone\u201d option.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>pct<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is \u201c100\u201d. This parameter is only needed if you have a \u201cquarantine\u201d policy. This means the DMARC policy will be applied to 100% outgoing emails.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the detailed steps to set up a DMARC record, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/snov.io\/knowledgebase\/set-up-dmarc-policy-for-your-domain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">read this guide.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Step 2: Prepare your company logo in SVG format<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To be compliant with BIMI, your company\u2019s logo image must follow certain guidelines. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The company logo that will show up in emails must be in SVG (Scaled Vector Graphics) format. The specific profile it must use is <\/span><b>SVG Tiny PS (Portable\/Secure)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The standard SVG logo won\u2019t meet BIMI requirements. Follow the steps below to convert it into the correct format, or ask a designer from your product team for assistance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Convert regular SVG logo to the SVG Tiny 1.2 format<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <strong>Adobe Illustrator<\/strong>, you can convert an <strong>SVG<\/strong> file to the <strong>SVG 1.2<\/strong> format. Upload your current logo to the image editor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The image must have a square aspect ratio. Enter the same <strong>Width<\/strong> (W) and <strong>Height<\/strong> (H) in the image properties in Illustrator.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use the export function (<strong>File<\/strong> \u2192 <strong>Save as<\/strong>). To get it, you'll need to submit your SVG logo and go through an approval process with a certified authority that issues the certificate.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"notification-block learn\">\n<div class=\"notification-block__icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/snov.io\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/themes\/knowledgebase\/assets\/img\/fluent_chat-warning-16-regular.svg\" alt=\"learn\" width=\"32\" height=\"32\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"notification-block__text\">\n<p>The VMC will prove your legal right to use the logo in your email communications. Not all email providers require a VMC, but Google does to display your logo in Gmail inboxes. With a VMC, your logo will automatically appear in the avatar slot next to the email preview and replace the generic avatar.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><b>How to get a VMC:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">VMC certificates are based on a registered trademark for your logo. Before applying for a VMC, make sure your logo is registered as intellectual property. This will be checked during the approval process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To register your logo, you can file a trademark application with your country's trademark office, such as the <strong>USPTO<\/strong> in the U.S. or the <strong>EUIPO<\/strong> in the European Union.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It\u2019s a good idea to consult a lawyer or your legal team to guide you through the process and ensure everything is done correctly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once your logo is registered, get a VMC from certified authorities such as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrust.com\/digital-security\/certificate-solutions\/products\/digital-certificates\/verified-mark-certificates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Entrust<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.digicert.com\/tls-ssl\/verified-mark-certificates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DigiCert<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After getting your VMC, you will receive a certificate file in <strong>\"PEM\"<\/strong> format.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Step 4: Upload your assets to a public server<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After doing the previous steps, you\u2019ve got your BIMI assets ready: <strong>SVG Tiny PS<\/strong> file (logo) and <strong>PEM<\/strong> file (certificate). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before you can set up BIMI, you\u2019ll need to upload your files to a server that uses a secure <strong>HTTPS<\/strong> protocol (HTTP is <strong>not<\/strong> accepted). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both files should keep their original names \u2013 do not rename them during the upload. Once the files are uploaded, get the URLs (web address) pointing to them. You\u2019ll need these links for your BIMI record. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>You cannot use Google Drive or any online image hosting service to store your BIMI assets, as these options are not compliant. Ideally, upload the files to a directory on your own website. To do this, log in to your domain hosting account, go to the file manager, and upload the files to the public folder (directory).<\/p>\n<div class=\"notification-block tip\">\n<div class=\"notification-block__icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/snov.io\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/themes\/knowledgebase\/assets\/img\/academicons_ideas-repec.svg\" alt=\"tip\" width=\"32\" height=\"32\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"notification-block__text\">\n<p>Ensure the folder with BIMI assets is accessible, meaning anyone with the link can access the files. This is necessary for email providers to access the logo when verifying your BIMI record.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once uploaded, get the direct URLs. You\u2019ll use this URL in your BIMI record.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Alternative ways to store BIMI assets:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you don't know how to upload files to your site, there are third-party services that can host the files for your BIMI setup. For example:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/support.powerdmarc.com\/support\/solutions\/articles\/60000688087-getting-started-with-powerbimi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PowerDMARC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> offers a <strong>\"Hosted BIMI\"<\/strong> service where you can upload your files. They will provide the required URLs for your BIMI record\u200b. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/easydmarc.com\/tools\/managed-bimi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EasyDMARC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is another example of such a service.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Step 5: Add BIMI to you domain settings<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BIMI is set up as a TXT record in your domain's DNS settings. Let's break down its parameters and guide you through creating it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A default format for BIMI records looks like this: <\/span><strong>default._bimi.[your-domain] TXT v=BIMI1; l=logoURL; a=vmcURL;\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><strong>\u201clogoURL\u201d<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the link to your logo (SVG Tiny PS file).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The SVG file added in your BIMI record must exactly match the one approved in your VMC. BIMI will not work if you add a link to a different version of the logo.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><strong>\u201cvmcURL\u201d<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the link to your certificate file.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"notification-block note-gray\">\n<div class=\"notification-block__text\">\n<p>If you don't have a VMC, you can leave out \"a=vmcURL\" part from the BIMI record\u200b. You can add it later when you get your certificate.
