Tracking domains with SSL<\/strong><\/p>\n

Snov.io automatically issues SSL certificates for custom tracking domains, so all tracked links use https<\/em>, improving deliverability by making your emails appear safer to spam filters.<\/p>\n

In some cases, a custom tracking domain cannot be added because of issues with your tracking domain settings.<\/p>\n

How to check your custom tracking domain<\/b><\/h2>\n

Test in browser:<\/b> Open the URL for your tracking domain or subdomain in your browser.<\/span><\/p>\n

If the page loads in your browser over https<\/em>, the certificate is active. If the page loads, then your domain is set up correctly. If it doesn\u2019t, then there\u2019s an issue with your setup.<\/span><\/p>\n

To check if your SSL certificate works, open tracking domain URL from your email account settings<\/a> in a browser. Use the format <\/span>https:\/\/tracking-domain-URL<\/span><\/i><\/a>.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Check DNS:<\/b> Use any online DNS checker to verify your tracking domain. If all areas show green, then your domain is configured correctly. If they show red, then there\u2019s a problem with your setup.<\/span><\/p>\n

Below are the possible issues and how to fix them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Issue: Tracked links use HTTP<\/strong><\/h3>\n

If the tracking domain URL has a format issue or the domain contains a CAA specification \u2192 Snov.io couldn\u2019t generate the SSL certificate \u2192 your links use HTTP.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

If tracked links in previously sent emails don\u2019t load or use http<\/strong> instead of https<\/strong>, it means the tracking domain isn\u2019t working correctly and Snov.io couldn\u2019t generate an SSL certificate for it.<\/p>\n

Without SSL, a custom tracking domain can\u2019t use https<\/em> to improve deliverability.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reason 1:<\/strong> Your tracking domain URL contained an underscore (<\/span>track._domain.com), <\/span><\/i>which caused an error during SSL generation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fix:<\/b> Check your tracking URL in CNAME record and make sure the format is correct. Remove any extra symbols if the address contains them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Re-add the correct URL <\/span>in the email account settings<\/span><\/a>. We\u2019ll verify it and automatically generate the SSL certificate.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

If you have multiple senders that use the same tracking domain, you can edit them all at once using bulk-editing feature<\/strong>. <\/span>Select the accounts that need adjustment and click <\/span>Edit.<\/b><\/p>\n

Reason 2:<\/strong> The domain on which the CNAME was created also has a <\/span>CAA record<\/b> that specifies which authorities can issue SSL certificates for it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fix: <\/b>Go to your domain\u2019s DNS and check the CAA record. If it exists, create a new one to include <\/span>Snov.io<\/span>\u2019s SSL provider. Multiple CAA records can coexist on the same domain.<\/span><\/p>\n

In CAA record, add this value: <\/span>CAA 0 issue \"<\/span><\/i>sectigo.com<\/span><\/i>\". <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

This ensures Snovio is allowed to issue a certificate for your custom tracking domain.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wait for DNS propagation (24\u201348 hours). Then re-add your tracking domain in Snov.io.<\/span><\/p>\n

Issue: Tracked links from emails don\u2019t load<\/strong><\/h3>\n

If CNAME record was deleted or modified \u2192 <\/span>Snov.io<\/span><\/a> couldn\u2019t recognize your tracking URL and generate SSL<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Reason:<\/strong> If the CNAME record for the tracking domain you added to Snov.io is removed from your domain, the custom tracking domain will stop working.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fix:<\/b> Open your domain\u2019s DNS settings and check the CNAME record. Update it or create a new one using <\/span>our guide<\/span><\/a> to ensure it\u2019s set up correctly.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

How to add or update CNAME record<\/strong><\/h3>\n

To access the DNS settings, log in to your domain registrar (the provider where you purchased your domain) and find the DNS management section.<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 1.<\/b> Add a new <\/span>CNAME<\/b> record (type: <\/span>CNAME or TXT<\/span><\/i>).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the <\/span>Points to <\/b>or <\/span>Value<\/b> field: add Snovio\u2019s URL: <\/span>snov-stream.com<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the <\/span>Name<\/b> field, enter \u201ctrack\u201d or the full URL address in the format <\/span>track.yourdomain.com<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The tracking domain URL shouldn\u2019t contain any extra symbols, like _underscore.<\/span><\/p>\n

Before adding a tracking domain to Snovio, wait some time until your domain updates. DNS changes may take up to 24-72 hours.<\/span><\/p>\n

Click <\/span>Set up<\/b> to start verification. We\u2019ll check that everything works and generate the SSL certificate. Don\u2019t forget to <\/span>Save<\/b> to apply your new settings.<\/span><\/p>\n
